On the Internet, It’s All about “My”

While I read this piece by David Browne I quickly realized this had to be and article at some point in time. This piece had to have been written as an informative essay. It had a specific purpose to inform the reader about the way the word “My” is used by many major cooperations. The writer did an impressive job on showing specific information about the topic by giving facts and details, such as surveys and quoting several people who were within the companies.  The writer was informing the reader about the “My” personalization of the internet. An exceptional job was done by keeping the readers attention, transitioning from sentence to sentence and staying focused on the underlaying message of the article. All of the thoughts were very well organized. It’s no wonder why David Browne was an executive editor of such a prestigious magazine such as The Rolling Stone.

The article was very eye opening. Growing up in the social media era I noticed the “My” mayhem as it was happening. So many of the major corporations would try to connect with their customers on a more personal level. Along with being concerned about their quarterly sales , the companies decided to focus some attention towards the consumers and their concerns. This movement was started for customers to voice their concerns to the companies, express jubilation with the products or services provided. This allowed the customer to feel closer to the suppliers. Customers really gravitated towards this “My” revolution because they felt that if they can connect to the companies and voice how they feel the company in return would listen to the concerns and address the issue accordingly. This movement took the cyber-nation by storm. More and more companies installed this “My” feature because of the demand from the consumers to inform the companies of their faults and where they are succeeding. Companies also wanted to know what they were doing wrong and figure out a way to improve and create new products and marketing ideas. The article really expressed how such a huge effort is being made by every website to connect with users as much as possible. This trend was one of the fastest growing trends of all time. This “My” frenzy started on a select few sites then almost overnight thousands of sites attempted to reach out to their customers on a more personal level. This was a very strategic marketing plan that seems to have paid off well for both the suppliers and the consumers.
